Biden says prostate cancer treatment ‘worked as intended’

Former President Biden on Tuesday said the radiation treatment he received for his prostate cancer diagnosis “worked as intended.”

Biden shared a lengthy statement on the social platform X acknowledging September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which he said was “more personal for” him this year. The former president’s office revealed in May 2025 that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer with bone metastasis, though doctors said his cancer was “hormone-sensitive.” He completed his treatment in October.

“I am deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who helped to control my cancer and who continue to take such good care of me,” Biden said in the post. “Their skill, dedication, and compassion mean so much. The radiation treatment from last fall worked as intended, and I continue to do the things I care about, like finishing my memoir.”

His memoir, “ Promise Me, America ,” which will cover his administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his decision to stop his attempt at a second term in 2024, is slated to release on Nov. 17.

The former president used his statement to thank supporters who have reached out and for keeping “me and my family in your prayers.”

“It’s my hope and prayer that by sharing our experience and being part of this important conversation, we can help save lives,” he continued. “Talk to your doctors. Ask the hard questions. Do it for yourself, and do it for the people who love you.”

His son Hunter Biden told BBC’s “Newsnight” last month that his father’s cancer had spread to other parts of his body, calling it “very debilitating.” Former first lady Jill Biden called her husband’s diagnosis “shocking” and said White House physicians “somehow” missed detecting his cancer.

The former president has kept a low profile since departing the White House last year, though he has opined on President Trump’s actions on occasion. In June, he called Trump “a loser” over his renovation projects across Washington, including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and the Kennedy Center.

He is expected to join former Presidents Obama, Clinton and George W. Bush at a ceremony at New York City’s Ground Zero to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Trump will attend a separate ceremony at the Pentagon.
