Marshall GOP primary challenger backs Democrat in Kansas Senate race

Arch Naramore, who mounted a primary challenge to GOP Sen. Roger Marshall (Kan.) earlier this year, endorsed the senator’s Democratic opponent Thursday.

Naramore said in a YouTube video he has “always” been a Republican. But he still threw his support behind Democrat Adam Hamilton, who is seeking to unseat Marshall in the Senate this November.

Marshall comfortably defeated Naramore in the August primary , but the challenger received more than 20 percent of the vote . Naramore noted that point in the video, saying a “lot of Republicans agreed” with him that “somebody” had to take on the first-term senator.

“Roger Marshall went along with tariffs that hurt Kansas farmers. He voted to give billions of dollars in tax breaks to data centers,” he remarked.

The Hill has reached out to a spokesperson for the Marshall campaign for comment.

Hamilton, the senior pastor of the Church of the Resurrection, is attempting to be the first Democrat to win a Senate race in Kansas since former Sen. George McGill in 1932.

The Hill’s polling partner, Decision Desk HQ , gave Hamilton a 23 percent chance of doing so as of Wednesday. The Cook Political Report also rates the race as a “lean” in Marshall’s favor, although the election handicapper shifted the contest to the left Wednesday.

Naramore, who has never held elected office , said Hamilton is “not a politician” and “will fight for all of us: Republicans, Democrats and independents.”

Sharing Naramore’s endorsement video on social platform X , Hamilton wrote, “Kansans of every political party agree: Roger Marshall isn’t getting the job done.”

Naramore is not the only Republican to publicly back Hamilton over Marshall. Former Kansas Gov. Bill Graves (R) endorsed Hamilton last week , saying it is “time” for voters in the state to “do something different.”

“For the last six years, Senator Roger Marshall has turned his back on Kansas,” the former governor remarked in a video Hamilton shared on X.
