Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the weekend discussed a viral moment she shared with former President Obama a few months ago at an event after former first lady Michelle Obama noted her husband’s Nobel Peace Prize.
“I was at the opening of the Obama library, which I hope you all get to visit, and, you know, Bill and I were up there with the former presidents and first ladies and sitting behind, you know, Barack and Michelle and their daughters,” Clinton said at a Saturday event for the Nebraska Democratic Party.
“So, when Michelle gave that very touching and clever speech about all the things that her husband had done that the other guy hasn’t, and when she got to, and then, you know, the Nobel Peace Prize, I just burst into laughter,” she added, seemingly referencing President Trump.
During the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in June , Michelle Obama noted her husband winning a Nobel Peace Prize during a speech, a line that elicited laughter from Clinton. Former President Obama then turned around and could be heard talking to Clinton, who was sitting behind him.
“I thought it was so perfect. And, so, Barack turns around and he kind of, you know, grins at me, and so I lean forward and I said, ‘I really hope that Donald Trump is watching this, and I really hope he heard that line. And, you know, I think he’s got to feel like he is, you know, in the 10th circle of hell or something because of this litany of everything you’ve done,’ and Barack goes, ‘Yeah, me too. I hope so.’”
Trump has expressed his desire for a Nobel Peace Prize on numerous occasions. Last week, the president asserted that he should have been awarded the prize instead of this year’s winner.
Trump reupped his exaggerated assertion that he has “settled eight Wars” in a Friday evening Truth Social post. He also said that he was “about to settle, or win, two more,” referring to Iran and the Russia-Ukraine war.
“The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he wrote.
“This is an indelible stain on Norway, one that will never be forgotten,” Trump continued. “The Nobel ‘Peace’ Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
