“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday morning. “Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!”

The president previously announced an energy ceasefire between both countries in mid-September. He wrote on Truth Social at the time that both countries agreed to not hit the other country’s energy infrastructure.

Trump announced this latest energy ceasefire deal after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with ABC News’s “This Week,” called for an energy ceasefire from both sides.

“It’s fair deal. It’s not the best deal,” Zelesnky said. “The best deal not –– not to have a war to stop Putin. But the first step is ceasefire, energy ceasefire. OK, if they want energy ceasefire, we are open for this. Don’t attack us. Don’t kill our children. We will stop attack your diesel. And I think it’s fair, fair deal.”

Reports indicated that after the announcement, Russia struck a Ukrainian power plant.

On Monday, Zelensky told Fox News he supported a ceasefire, but said he wasn’t sure if Russian President Vladimir Putin was ready.

How policy will affect the energy and environment sectors now and in the future:

Oil prices rose on Monday, after the Iran-backed Houthis launched attacks on two airports in Saudi Arabia over the weekend.

A federal judge scolded Trump administration lawyers on Monday for failing to provide sufficient notice before cutting down hundreds of trees in East Potomac Park over the weekend, saying she was “beyond disappointed” with the government’s conduct.

Oil analyst Patrick De Haan said Monday that President Trump’s deal with Russia to supply the U.S. and global markets with diesel fuel may not lower fuel prices.
