Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered brief, impromptu remarks at President Trump’s rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Tuesday.
“It’s an honor to work for the greatest country in the world, for the greatest president in the history of the United States of America. We love you, Texas. Thank you,” Rubio told the crowd after he was summoned on stage by Trump.
Rubio’s remarks come after he traveled with the president for his two campaign stops in Texas. A State Department official told The Hill that Rubio was traveling in his capacity as national security adviser.
“He needs time with the president on all kinds of issues. The president will be on the go, so being on the plane with him gives him a chance to talk to him about these items,” the official told The Hill.
Rubio is not the only notable figure to deliver brief remarks at a recent Trump rally. Last night, Trump called incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) up on stage during a rally in Mississippi on Monday.
“Is this not the best president in our lifetime?” Hyde-Smith exclaimed before leaving the stage.
Trump noted at the Monday rally he prefers when speakers keep their remarks short at the campaign events.
“I love that. Sometimes they get up, and they talk for 10 minutes,” the president said.
