House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Tuesday that there will be a “peaceful transfer of power” when new House members are set to join the lower chamber next year.
“Of course, we’ll have a peaceful transfer of power, but it will not be transferring because we are going to keep the majority, and I’m going to be the Speaker of the House, and I will keep steady hands with at wheel, okay?” Johnson said, responding to MS NOW reporter Mychael Schnell in a clip she posted to the social platform X Tuesday.
“Look, you know my background. I’m a constitutional attorney. We’re going to follow the Constitution. The Constitution says when a state certifies the election of members of Congress, then they are administered the oath. That’s what I’ll be doing on January 3 to everybody who’s there,” the speaker added.
Officials in states throughout the country have recently played defense against election fraud claims from President Trump, with the president doubling down ahead of this year’s midterms.
In remarks to the country in July, the president claimed to see “shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure.” Trump pointed to a voter registration case in Michigan from 2020, also taking aim at California, suggesting the Golden State’s mail-in ballots were “floating aimlessly.”
Before Trump’s summer remarks, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it discovered thousands of noncitizens on voter rolls in California, New Jersey, Nevada and Pennsylvania.
On Monday , Trump announced a $1 million reward for voter fraud tips, only eight days out from Election Day.
“Anybody reporting Voter Fraud in the past Elections, or the upcoming 2026 Midterm Election, will be paid $1,000,000 upon the arrest and conviction of those that created the Fraud!” Trump said in a Monday afternoon Truth Social post.
