Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) on Tuesday leaned into President Trump’s recent campaign trail comments on his physique.
“The president’s coming in, tomorrow, again to Ohio, third time in less than 30 days. He’ll be in Chillicothe,” Husted said at a campaign event Tuesday.
“Don’t worry, I was in the weight room this morning working out,” he added, later saying “I don’t want to let him down.”
Last week Trump again complimented the backside of Husted, something he has done multiple times on the campaign trail as the midterms near.
“I looked at his a‑‑, and then I looked at his legs, and my — I said, ‘His a‑‑ is like, it’s like a pile of muscle.’ Then I looked at his legs, and I said, ‘Man, his feet are big,’” Trump said during a rally in North Carolina, talking about Husted, who is locked in a tight race with former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).
“Then I looked at his shoulders, and I tapped him on the shoulder, and it actually hurt my hand. It was like a piece of steel. I said, ‘This guy’s a monster,’” the president added.
The president often talks about the appearances of women at rallies and in other settings, joking he could be “canceled” over the compliments. Trump’s comments about men’s bodies have caught the attention of commentators across the political spectrum.
Trump’s comments on Husted come shortly before Election Day. The Ohio Senate battle is among a handful of Democratic pickup opportunities with headwinds blowing hard against Republicans.
