Conservative pundit Megyn Kelly says the Republican Party has some soul-searching to do after this week’s midterm elections.

“This morning the Republican Party is in ruins, and maybe it needed to be,” Kelly said on her popular podcast and YouTube show.

“The choice now for Republicans is to reflect, rebuild, and reinvent in the image of no man. They’re going to have to do it on their own,” she continued. “They’re going to have to learn how to win without daddy on the ballot, and to find their ethical center, and not just be puppets of Trump’s, not to have their entire political world revolve around Donald Trump.”

Democrats won sweeping victories in Tuesday’s midterm elections, taking back control of the U.S. House and Senate and setting up major clashes with President Trump’s White House during his last two years in office.

Trump has sought to downplay GOP losses, insisting if he were on the ballot, the result would have been different, and he bemoaned a failure by Republicans to transfer their love for him to candidates for House and Senate.

Kelly has been sharply critical of Trump in recent months over the Iran war and its impact on the U.S. economy, a major factor in Tuesday’s midterm rout, which included Democratic Senate victories in long-held Republican strongholds including Texas, Kansas and South Carolina.

Potential GOP successors to Trump have also sought to blame the war for Tuesday’s results, including Vice President Vance and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who called the vote an “extinction-level event” for Republicans.
