MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough on Monday slammed negative reactions to former President Obama’s recent joke about the Cheesecake Factory and the White House.
“Can you believe how stupid the reaction is and how stupid they think Americans are?” he said on his show, “Morning Joe.”
“Every time Donald Trump opens his mouth now, especially in this end run, they say such unbelievably stupid things that suggest that they think all Americans are dumb,” he added.
On Saturday, Obama made fun of President Trump’s multiple renovation projects in Washington while at a campaign stop in Cleveland.
“He seems very focused on home renovations. He should be on HGTV,” Obama said of Trump’s White House construction efforts.
“What’s with the gold? … He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory,” the former president quipped.
Obama added that he thought Trump was more focused on renovating the White House than on issues voters cared about.
Some Republican figures did not react positively toward the Cheesecake Factory comparison.
Conservative pundit Scott Jennings went after the former president in a post on the social platform X, saying Obama “makes speeches for 500k a pop.”
“Hasn’t eaten dinner that costs less than $250 in years. Has never been in a Cheesecake Factory. Undefeated at condescending to regular folks. Will always be known for a presidency that ushered in the Trump era to begin with,” Jennings said in his Saturday post .
A representative for the Cheesecake Factory did not return The Hill’s request for comment on Obama’s comments.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
