Worker injured during White House construction rescued by emergency crew

An emergency crew rescued a construction worker from high up in scaffolding on the White House North Portico on Monday afternoon, responding to a dispatch saying that a worker had been injured.

The worker was put into a stretcher and ambulance, which then went to the hospital, according to the Washington Post . The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the worker’s condition, the Post said.

Workers have been removing scaffolding and draping around the portico that were up for renovations to the columns and entrance that started in July. The scaffolding is now being removed in preparation for Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the White House on Sept. 24.

The North Portico project is one of many Trump has started, or mused about, around the White House grounds. A renovation of the driveway to add a helipad was completed this week.
