Watters: Trump should just say ‘half-off beer if you vote Republican’

Fox News host Jesse Watters on Monday joked that President Trump should just say that he will cut the price of beer in half if Americans vote for Republicans in the upcoming midterms.

During a discussion on Fox News between Watters and conservative commentator Benny Johnson about how politicians can draw larger crowds at public events, Johnson jokingly suggested that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed offer half-price beers at their events.

In response, Watters added, “Trump should do that. Trump’s already offering $5,000 in cash. He should just say, ‘Half-off beer if you vote Republican.’ Why not?”

Earlier this month , Trump pledged to hand over $5,000 dividends to American adults if Republicans hold on to Congress following November’s midterms.

Trump unveiled the proposed “Trump dividends” as he was speaking at the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) Dallas midterm convention. The president said his administration could send out the funds to the U.S.’s adult population “because we’ve done so well and because our country is making so much money.”

Watters’s Monday joke comes at a time of political strife for the GOP and the president, with Trump’s average approval rating recently dropping to less than 40 percent, widespread concern about the cost of living and the unpopular war in Iran hitting the seven-month mark.

The war in Iran has driven up energy costs as the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for the oil industry, has been closed amid the conflict. Some Republicans have distanced themselves from Trump on Iran as they battle it out against their Democratic rivals before Election Day.

According to AAA, the average price of a regular gallon of gas on Tuesday afternoon was about $4.46, up from about $3.14 last year at the same time .
