Nevada voters have approved a ballot measure protecting abortion up to the point of viability, officially adding the protection to the state constitution, Decision Desk HQ has projected.

The measure allows the state to enact restrictions after viability is reached, which is usually around the 24-week mark, except when necessary to protect the life or health of the mother. It is projected to pass with 63 percent support, with 70 percent of the vote reported early Wednesday.

This is the second straight election that Nevadans passed the measure , as constitutional amendments need to be approved in two even-numbered election years in a row. Nevadans voted in favor of the measure two years ago with 64 percent in favor.

The amendment’s passage continues the sweeping success for reproductive rights on the ballot in various states throughout the country since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Different states, leaning both Democratic and Republican, have passed measures protecting abortion rights since then.

That includes states such as California, Vermont, Ohio and Missouri. More than a dozen states, mostly in the South, have implemented near-total abortion bans.
