Live updates: Trump-Xi summit winds down; Iran war, economic squeeze weigh on GOP

As President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping wrap up their summit in Washington on Friday, some GOP lawmakers are bristling at the lavish treatment Xi received as the nation grapples with economic pressures ahead of the midterms.

The leaders’ meeting at the White House on Thursday touched on trade, artificial intelligence and the war in Iran. Trump also showed his Chinese counterpart around the White House grounds , including his new helipad and ballroom construction.

They are expected to visit the National Archives on Friday before Xi departs.

Meanwhile, Senate Republicans on Thursday blocked another war powers resolution seeking to end Trump’s military operations in Iran.
