Patrick Clancy says he leans on his children for support

( NewsNation ) — Patrick Clancy has spoken out publicly for the first time since he took the stand seven weeks ago in his ex-wife Lindsey Clancy’s murder trial.

In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Clancy told the outlet he leans on his children for support.

“I talk to them,” he said in a promo posted to social platform X .

“What do you say to them?” correspondent Ross Douthat asked.

“‘Help me,'” Clancy responded. “All the time.”

Lindsay Clancy was charged with the murder of her three children in 2023. In his testimony, the ex-husband spoke of the mother’s declining mental health in the months leading up to the killings — including how she struggled with paranoia, suicidal thoughts, insomnia, depression and intrusive thoughts; and about harming the children.

His testimony was the first to be used by the prosecution, who argued Lindsay Clancy was sane when she killed her children and that it was premeditated. The defense made the case she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and, therefore, could not be held criminally responsible.

Clancy’s testimony led to online speculation and conspiracies that he played a role in his children’s deaths. He told “60 Minutes” that the baseless theories are deeply harmful to the legacy of his children and a distraction to perinatal health.

The case ultimately ended in a mistrial after seven days of deliberation, with one lone juror refusing to find the mother not criminally responsible. Clancy has now retained attorney Martin G. Weinberg, who was a part of Karen Read’s legal team, and will appear in court again at the end of September.

It is not yet known whether prosecutors will seek to retry her.
