Phil Collins is knocking President Trump as “nasty,” saying that the commander in chief “plays politics like a businessman,” even though handling U.S. and international relations isn’t “really a business at all.”
“It’s diplomacy,” Collins said in a recent interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
“Sometimes you can lose, but still come out winning,” the “In the Air Tonight” singer said.
But the president, Collins said, “Sees everything as a deal — won or lost — and I think it’s a very scary time.”
“His whole manner is unattractive,” the former Genesis frontman said.
“Historically, presidents have been eloquent and elegant. You feel like even if you don’t agree with them, you still respect them,” the 75-year-old English performer said.
“But when someone like Trump is as nasty as he is, you end up feeling dislike for him,” Collins told host Piers Morgan.
“It’s very scary with what’s happening,” Collins said.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if if he just tries to overrule the two-term deal — American presidents can only serve two terms,” Collins said in a reference to the Constitution’s 22 nd Amendment barring a president from serving more than two terms.
Trump has repeatedly teased the idea of launching a third term bid, but has also acknowledged that the Constitution is “pretty clear” that he is not allowed to run again.
“I don’t think he will do that. I don’t think the system would let him,” Morgan replied.
Saying he’s known Trump a “long time,” Morgan added, “The one thing I’ve learned is never to be surprised by him because nothing is surprising. In other words, he can basically do anything.”
“I don’t think he would be allowed to do that. I think even his own party, even his own followers, would disagree with that suggestion,” the Grammy Award winner said of Trump seeking a third term.
