Live updates: Republicans converge on Dallas for Trump’s midterm convention

Administration officials, Republican candidates and party leaders will join President Trump in Dallas on Wednesday for the opening of a two-day Republican National Committee midterm convention . The president will give a keynote speech to close out the day.

Several GOP lawmakers will give remarks throughout the gathering’s first day, including Reps. Brandon Gill (Texas), Rob Bresnahan (R-Pa.) and Byron Donalds (Fla.), as well as Sens. John Husted (Ohio) and Dave McCormick (Pa.). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will also speak Wednesday.

Republicans are hoping the convention, running less than two months before November’s midterms, will offer a last-minute boost of enthusiasm. While the self-described “ Trump-a-palooza ” runs, Democrats are looking to counter the event with their set of programming in Texas.

Trump will receive an intelligence briefing at the White House before traveling to Texas. He’ll speak in Dallas at 9:15 p.m. EDT.

Meanwhile, former President George W. Bush will attend a memorial ceremony at his namesake presidential center in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Bush, who was president during the tragedy, will speak at the event, which is not open to the public.
