Grassley joins TikTok with post about late vacuum Beth

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) joined TikTok on Wednesday and posted a video commemorating his longtime family vacuum, which he had named Beth and had built a substantial social media following.

“Only feels appropriate to pay homage to Beth,” Grassley wrote in the video’s caption.

The video displayed a series of pictures of the vacuum throughout the years — with one clip of Grassley vacuuming with Beth in his home — as Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” played in the background.

The TikTok post marked a change from remarks Grassley made in 2024 alleging that the Chinese Communist Party could demand American data from the platform. He also advocated in 2024 for “divesting TikTok from foreign adversary hands.”

Grassley invited TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and other tech leaders for a kid safety hearing in May , saying in advance of it that the Senate Judiciary Committee looked forward to “shining a bright light” and “holding Big Tech accountable.”

The Hoover vacuum had been in the 92-year-old senator’s family for nearly 50 years and was a popular feature on Grassley’s other social media platforms.

The senator eulogized the vacuum in August when it unexpectedly began sparking at the power cord.

“It’s not safe to use anymore. GOOD BYE BETH . U hv been a real workhorse. Ur namesake still is hard worker. I will miss u,” he wrote on the social platform X .

The second Wednesday video posted on Grassley’s TikTok account celebrated his arrival on the platform.

“I’m announcing today that I’m on Tiktok. I hope you will follow me,” Grassley said.

The caption of the video urged users to “follow along for updates, behind-the-scenes content and more from the senator!”

He appeared to be drinking a Dairy Queen milkshake, referencing a popular post from 2014 , when he said, “Windsor Heights Dairy Queen is good place for u kno what.”
