Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) weighed in Sunday after President Trump posted Sen. Tom Cotton’s (R-Ark.) phone number online amid a dispute over permanent daylight saving time, quipping that the president “can go from zero to a‑‑hole in about three seconds.”

“Every now and then, there are disputes in Congress that have existential significance for the future of Western civilization. Daylight saving time is not one of them,” Kennedy told NBC News’s Kristen Welker Sunday on “Meet the Press.”

“Tom Cotton feels strongly about it. Tom is a rock star senator. If you get between him and what’s best for Arkansas, he’ll devour you like a light snack. President Trump’s also my friend. He feels strongly about it,” he continued. “The president, as we know, can be sometimes — he exists loudly. He can be tempestuous. He can go from zero to a‑‑hole in about three seconds.”

The Louisiana Republican added, “I don’t think he should have given out Tom’s cellphone number. I don’t think that’s going to help convince Tom.”

Trump, who posted the number Saturday on Truth Social, has pressed Cotton to advance legislation to make daylight saving time permanent. The senator, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, has been a vocal opponent of the legislation.

“Tom Cotton, a friend of mine, is holding up a very important Bill,” the president wrote. “For some reason, Tom is stopping the Bill and, in the Senate, it’s very easy to do, it only takes one! It should pass overwhelmingly, in a Bipartisan fashion.”

“To the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate, and for America, itself. Call Tom on his cellphone,” he added, before sharing the number. “Let him know.”

Trump has largely blamed Cotton for holding up the Sunshine Protection Act after the bill cleared the House in July via a 308-117 vote.

The Arkansas Republican, in a statement shared on social platform X , said, “No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter.”

“Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first,” he concluded.

He has not responded to Trump’s posts sharing his number.
