Live results: Coons looks to fend off challenger in Delaware Senate primary

Voters in the First State head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots in the Democratic and Republican primaries, closing out the primary season for 2026.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) has held his Senate seat for 16 years, taking over the seat vacated by Joe Biden when he became vice president in 2009 and briefly held by Ted Kaufman. His path to his third full term begins Tuesday night with the Democratic primary, where his challenge is former business executive Eric Hansen, who will appear on the ballot as “E. No-Trump Hansen” after legally changing his name.

Hansen was the Republican nominee in Delaware’s 2024 Senate race, in which he lost to Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.).

On the Republican side, former Democratic state senator Michael Katz and U.S. Army War College instructor John Shulli are vying to be the GOP standard-bearer in the reliably blue state.
