Live updates: Missouri redistricting returns to court; Trump threatens EU over new Canada ties

The U.S. Appeals Court for the 8th Circuit will wade into the Missouri’s congressional map dispute on Thursday.

The hearing in a federal suit filed by Rep. Bob Onder (R-Mo.) follows a week after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked a federal judge’s ruling in another suit that would have allowed a 2025 GOP-favored map to stay in effect. Lawmakers have argued reverting to the 2022 district map this close to elections would cause chaos.

The future of the Kennedy Center hangs in the balance, as the board closed the performing arts venue on Wednesday. Ex-officio board member Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) asked a federal judge to call an emergency hearing for an explanation about the closure.

The Justice Department has been ordered to respond by Thursday morning. Beatty’s legal team wants a “high-level decisionmaker” at the Kennedy Center to be there if a hearing happens.

President Trump is at the White House on Thursday after a Wednesday trip to North Carolina for a rally with Senate candidate Michael Whatley (R). He’ll sign executive orders and host a Rose Garden dinner.

The Senate will take its next vote on the Protect College Sports Act Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, House members headed home Wednesday after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) ended their session early — putting representatives on a seven-week recess that extends past Election Day in November.
