More than 90 percent of Texas voters believe the Iran conflict is raising oil and gas prices , according to a new survey.

In the CBS News/YouGov poll , 91 percent of respondents said the war against Iran is making oil and gas prices in the U.S. “a lot higher” or “a little higher.” Only 7 percent of Texas voters said the conflict is having “no impact” on oil and gas prices, while 1 percent said the conflict is making oil and gas prices “a little lower.”

The poll comes almost two weeks out from the 2026 midterm elections, in which energy prices are a central issue. The conflict against Iran — which is nearing the eight-month mark — has driven up energy prices as the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for the oil industry, has been closed.

According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. was about $4.30 Monday afternoon, with that same gallon worth about $3.04 last year. In Texas, the average price of a gallon of regular gas was about $3.78 Monday afternoon, up from about $2.60 last year.

The Lone Star State is in the midst of a contentious Senate race, in which Democrats are looking to score a long-sought statewide victory. They are facing a positive electoral environment heading into this year’s midterms as the GOP has been weighed down by issues like the Iran war, increased costs of living and President Trump’s sagging approval numbers .

In the poll, 51 percent of likely voters backed Democrat James Talarico, while 49 percent backed Republican Ken Paxton.

The CBS News/YouGov poll took place from Oct. 8-16, featuring 1,492 registered voters in Texas and a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
