California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) campaigned with Democrats in New Hampshire only a few weeks out from the midterms.
“Great to be back in New Hampshire. The energy across the Granite State is UNDENIABLE. Fired-up crowds, incredible volunteers, and so much enthusiasm heading into November 3,” Newsom wrote on social media Sunday.
“Grateful to join so many incredible candidates here up and down the ballot. The stakes couldn’t be higher. Get out and VOTE. Let’s TAKE this country BACK,” he added.
Newsom’s post featured photos of him taking part in campaign events alongside Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.), the Democratic candidate in New Hampshire’s Senate race who is facing former Sen. John E. Sununu (R-N.H.) to fill retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s (D) seat in the upper chamber.
According to Decision Desk HQ, Pappas has an 84 percent chance of winning, and the nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report rates his race as leaning Democratic.
New Hampshire is one of the earlier states in the 2028 presidential primary calendar for Democrats, and Newsom’s trip to the Granite State may be a sign that he’ll make a 2028 bid for the White House.
Newsom is often floated as a 2028 contender, alongside his fellow Californian former Vice President Kamala Harris and other prominent Democrats including Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.).
During President Trump’s second term, Newsom has fashioned himself into an attack dog against the president, taking aim at his social media posting style and calling out the current president over his actions on multiple occasions.
