Conservative commentator Scott Jennings said Wednesday that Vice President Vance “could have” avoided talking about an ad for Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy (R) featuring his Democratic rival’s mother

“He could have just ignored it,” Jennings said on “CNN NewsNight” of Vance and the ad. “You know, I mean, campaigns make decisions, surrogates come in and campaign for them. I’m sure not all surrogates agree with all the decisions that … are made by all the campaigns they support. So, you could have just ignored it.”

“This issue of whining, I took some issue with that today, because I don’t see people whining about this, I think they are warning about this,” he added.

Vance went after the response by some Republicans to the campaign ad, stating he was “disgusted” by fellow GOP members that pushed back on the video.

“I have to admit that I’m a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that advertisement than they are about what the congressional Democrats and other Democrats want to do to the United States of America,” Vance said at a fraud task force press conference Wednesday.

The ad features the mother of Amy Acton, Ramaswamy’s Democratic rival, who alleges that Acton is a “liar” and “needs help.”

The Democratic candidate’s brother released a statement and a competing video later in which he said that he and Acton have been estranged from their mother for years because she stayed in a marriage with the man who sexually abused his sister when she was young. Acton was taken out of her mother’s care when she was 12.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
