Trump to greet Xi at Joint Base Andrews ahead of state visit

President Trump will greet Chinese President Xi Jinping when he arrives at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday.

Xi’s arrival will kick off his state visit to the White House, which will include bilateral meetings and a state dinner.

The visit, which is expected to be opulent, comes after Xi rolled out the red carpet for Trump during his state visit to Beijing in May.

Trump has spoke highly of his Chinese counterpart despite tensions between the two countries, referring to Xi as a “great leader” and a “strong man.”

A number of key issues are likely to come up during the visit, including trade, artificial intelligence and national security.

The visit will follow the United Nations General Assembly meeting, which will see world leaders descend on New York City. Trump is slated to address the body and hold meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines. Xi has opted to skip the event ahead of his trip to Washington.
