Kansas cattle ranchers and farmers say they are politically divided.

( NewsNation ) — Will faith make the difference for voters in Kansas who are torn between the Republican and Democratic candidates?

The unexpectedly tight midterms race for Kansas' Senate seat between Republican Sen. Roger Marshall and his Democratic opponent, Rev. Adam Hamilton , suggests the answer is yes — so much so that it could help decide control of the Senate.

Hamilton is a pastor, and he campaigns like one. He prays over voters, invokes the Bible with ease and counters attack ads calling him "woke" with quips like: "If Jesus were here, you would call him too woke."

He has put a notable distance between himself and Democrats on the coasts: He told POLITICO that Chuck Schumer is a "liability" in Kansas and that Kamala Harris should stay in California.

Ahead of Tuesday's Senate election, Kansas cattle ranchers and farmers interviewed by NewsNation all expressed concerns about rising costs, but they're divided politically. One longtime Republican-leaning farmer who voted for President Donald Trump in 2016 says he's now inclined to vote for Hamilton over Marshall.

Kansas hasn't elected a Democratic senator in nearly a century. The latest Decision Desk HQ polling shows Hamilton leading Marshall 48.7%-45.3%.
