Jeff Kaufmann, chair of the Iowa Republican Party, said Thursday that President Trump will campaign in the Hawkeye State twice before Election Day.

“I just got off the phone with President Trump. He told me that he will be in Iowa on October 22 and November 1. He is anxious for Iowans to hear his message before they vote. Stay tuned for further details,” Kaufmann wrote on social media.

The announced stops come as the prospect of Democrats flipping an Iowa Senate seat becomes increasingly likely.

A Marist poll released Thursday showed Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek leading Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) 48 percent to 45 percent among likely voters in Iowa. Turek’s lead fell within the poll’s 6.6 percent margin of error.

However, an Emerson College poll released last week showed Hinson leading Turek 47 percent to 45 percent among likely voters. That lead is also within the poll’s margin of error of 3.8 percent.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates Iowa’s Senate race as a “toss-up,” but according to Decision Desk HQ , Hinson is narrowly seen as the favorite to win the race.

The last time a Democrat from Iowa was elected to the Senate was in 2008.
