President Trump took a slight jab Wednesday at tech mogul Elon Musk, who remains a close ally despite a rollercoaster relationship between the two.
Trump made the swipe while going after Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) while speaking at a rally in the state, calling the Democrat “horrible.”
“First of all, she’s a dumb person. You ever see her?” the president told the crowd. “I know smart people … from Elon down to [Hobbs], I figure there’s a big gap.”
“No, Elon’s 80 percent super genius, and 20 percent — he got a little problem, I always tell him,” Trump added. “No, he’s a great guy though.”
Musk, who formerly led the Trump administration’s controversial Department of Government Efficiency, recently returned to the political fray — reclaiming his hefty election spender status and inserting himself back into Washington after publicly feuding with the president last year.
In June 2025, tensions exploded between Musk and Trump, with the two exchanging insults that reached a peak when the tech executive alleged that files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were being hidden to protect the president.
Musk suggested earlier this year he would ramp down his political involvement, but his recent election spending has made him the largest campaign donor in this year’s midterms. The tech mogul is hoping to give Republicans a boost amid an unfavorable electoral environment.
