President Trump will hit the campaign trail in Kansas next week, the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced on Tuesday, as the state’s Senate race grows more competitive.
Trump’s upcoming rally Monday in Wichita is the latest sign Republicans are paying more attention to their chances in Sen. Roger Marshall’s (R-Kan.) reelection bid .
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the race as a “toss-up,” but gives Marshall an 8-point advantage. A New York Times/Siena College poll released earlier this month showed Marshall and his Democratic opponent Adam Hamilton tied in the state.
But Republicans do not appear to be taking any chances on Kansas. The Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC aligned with Republican Senate leadership, is investing $14 million in the race to support Marshall.
The RNC also announced that Trump will travel Tuesday to Greenville, N.C., Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley continues to fall behind his opponent, former Gov. Roy Cooper (D).
Trump told reporters last week that he was worried about Whatley’s chances in the state.
“I hope he wins. He was a great leader for the whole Republican Party when I won, and he’d be a great senator,” the president said.
