Live updates: Melania Trump hits Baton Rouge for LSU-Alabama game; Peltola’s campaign sues Alaska

First Lady Melania Trump is set to attend to the college football face-off between Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama Saturday afternoon, a visit tied to her Fostering the Future education initiative.

The White House announced earlier this week the first lady had awarded LSU $5 million to establish a permanent endowment fund providing scholarships to students in the foster care system. LSU will play Alabama at 3 p.m. EST in Baton Rouge, La.

Meanwhile, President Trump is in Mar-a-Lago — where the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is hosting the final day of its Circle Retreat and Gala on the heels of several stunning GOP losses during Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Among guests at the multi-day retreat, which began on Nov. 4, many have recently faced public controversies — such as newly-appointed White House chief of staff Stephen Miller, ousted former U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and right-wing Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, who fled the country following his election loss.

In battleground Alaska, Democrat Mary Peltola’s campaign is suing the state to obtain access to records for absentee ballots that were rejected by the Alaska Division of Elections.

A new court filing shows Peltola’s campaign previously requested records of the rejected ballots on multiple occasions but were denied access.

Peltola currently leads Sen. Dan Sullivan (R) in the Alaska U.S. Senate race by just over 600 votes, according to Decision Desk HQ.

The president has a policy meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST and does not have any public appearances listed on his schedule.
