President Trump on Sunday commended Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) for her endorsement of GOP Senate candidate former Rep. Mike Rogers (Mich.).
“Wow, this is BIG! Congresswoman Haley Stevens, a Highly Respected Democrat, who narrowly lost in the Primary to Abdul Mohamed El-Sayed, and who has been breathlessly wined and dined by the Dumocrats to help in their Michigan Campaign for the United States Senate against Mike Rogers, has just ENDORSED Mike Rogers for Senate!” Trump said in a Sunday post to Truth Social.
“Her following is huge, and the level of respect from the People of Michigan, especially our African American and Jewish populations, is virtually unparalleled. Haley said what few people are willing to say,” the president continued.
Trump added that Stevens “showed great and almost unprecedented loyalty to the Great People of Michigan with what she did.”
“It’s a thing called bravery, and few people have it like just displayed by Congresswoman Haley Stevens!”
On Sunday , Stevens endorsed former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) over Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated Stevens in a tense primary battle over the summer.
Stevens’s announcement followed days of feuding between herself and El-Sayed and comes only two days before the midterm elections. She also appeared at a Detroit church alongside Rogers on Sunday.
Stevens was set to attend a campaign event with the Democratic nominee, but El-Sayed dropped Stevens , according to sources familiar with the matter.
Anger over Israel and its war in Gaza was central to Stevens and El-Sayed’s primary battle, their recent feud and Steven’s decision to back Rogers.
In a Sunday post from Rogers’s campaign staffer Abby Ronson on the social platform X, Stevens is seen in a photo standing next to the GOP nominee, with the caption reading, “HAPPENING NOW: Congresswoman Haley Stevens joins Mike Rogers at church in Detroit this morning.”
El-Sayed has expressed his desire for the U.S. to cut off financial aid to Israel and instead spend that money on domestic issues. During the Democratic primary, Stevens received millions from pro-Israel lobbying groups, a major point of contention between the candidates.
