Sen. John Curtis (R-Utah) applauded President Trump’s “willingness to act” on the financial fraud allegations against former U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle — who resigned Tuesday morning.

“I commend the Administration for taking the allegations involving Ambassador Guilfoyle seriously,” the senator wrote on social platform X . “Public service is a public trust, and political connections should never put anyone above accountability.”

“I appreciate President Trump’s willingness to act. That’s the kind of leadership Americans are yearning for,” he concluded.

Guilfoyle’s resignation was announced Tuesday morning by new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia following backlash over her financial dealings. Guilfoyle later released a resignation statement on the social platform X.

The Wall Street Journal first reported last week that Guilfoyle asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay a $100,000 credit card bill and instructed him to do so via wire transfer to avoid a paper trail.

The outlet also reported new allegations that wealthy Greek businessmen helped fund Guilfoyle’s luxury travel as she used her role to promote their business interests.

In her resignation statement, Guilfoyle denied these allegations, calling them “false ,” and stated her intention “to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity.”

“I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service,” she wrote.

After the announcement, Trump said the influx of negative press stories surrounding Guilfoyle led to the ousting.

“She went to Greece. She was doing a good job, but we didn’t like what we were reading,” Trump said to reporters outside of the White House.

Curtis has been critical of some recent moves by the Trump administration — including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement that the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan would be livestreamed.

In a statement shared to social media, Curtis recalled Seneca warning Rome that “bloody spectacles corrupted the people who watched them,” adding that “a civilization erodes when it cultivates an appetite for executions as a form of entertainment.”

“Secretary Hegseth’s plan to livestream the Fort Hood execution risks feeding that appetite,” he continued. “The victims deserve justice administered with solemnity. Broadcasting a death diminishes us and is not an effective deterrent. I urge him to reconsider.”
