Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (D-Ga.) lashed out at President Trump’s military operations against Iran on Wednesday, warning a further escalation could cost Republicans in the November elections.

“If Trump is dumb enough to attack Iran again before the midterms, @AbdulElSayed will win the senate seat in Michigan,” Greene wrote on social media Wednesday. “It’s a stupid senseless war and America hates it.”

Greene added that this was “not an endorsement” of Michigan Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate campaign.

El-Sayed is competing in a tight race against former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) in Michigan’s open Senate race.

Greene, a former close ally of the president and his administration, resigned from Congress at the end of last year following a public fallout with Trump over an effort to release the Justice Department’s files related to deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The U.S. and Israel launched initial joint strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, beginning hostilities that have now stretched on for nearly eight months. The war has placed an immense strain on global energy supplies as the flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil trading corridor, has been stymied amid these strikes.

On Wednesday evening, The New York Times reported that the U.S. and Israeli militaries are planning renewed strikes for after the midterm elections, citing U.S. officials with knowledge of the plans.

Democrats running in battleground races this election cycle have slammed their Republican opponents for not supporting war powers resolutions to wind down U.S. military operations against Iran amid discontent among voters over high costs and inflation during the conflict.

Lawmakers have successfully passed several Iran powers resolutions, including three in the House and one in the Senate .

El-Sayed reiterated his support for ending the Iran war in an interview with NewsNation’s Leland Vittert earlier this month.

“I have been more than extremely clear about this: I don’t want our tax dollars being used to subsidize war abroad,” El-Sayed said. “I don’t want our tax dollars being used to fund, unconditionally, foreign militaries.”

In a campaign ad released last month, Rogers also called for the war to come to a close .

“The war with Iran needs to end and end quickly,” he continued. “When it does, energy costs will plummet. But Michigan families can’t afford to wait for that to happen. We need to do something now.”
