Nancy Mace’s ex-fiance, 2 other men face sex crime charges after her accusations in House speech
Three men, including Rep. Nancy Mace’s ex-fiance, are now facing charges for a 2018 incident.
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. ( WCBD ) — Three South Carolina men have been charged after Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) accused them in a House floor speech last year of being sexual predators.
John Douglas Osborne, 46; Brendan Patrick Bryant, 53; and Eric Bernard Bowman, 46, have been arrested and charged with sexually related offenses in connection to an incident that occurred on Sullivan’s Island on October 26, 2018, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced Wednesday.
Affidavits obtained from SLED state that a female victim, 23, had consumed alcoholic beverages, fell into a swimming pool, and eventually passed out on a sofa while intoxicated. She was reportedly unable to speak coherently or walk normally.
While the victim was unconscious, the three men allegedly discussed sexual exploits before agreeing that Osborne would have sex with the victim while the two other men watched, officials said.
Bryant and Bowman allegedly took photographs of the incident, according to arrest affidavits.
Osborne was charged with first-degree assault and battery and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Bowman has been charged with voyeurism, obstruction of justice, and publishing the name of a victim of criminal sexual conduct. Bryant was charged with voyeurism.
All three were booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Mace, on the House floor in February 2025, had previously accused Osborne, Bryant, Bowman, and another man of being sexual predators. The fourth man has not been charged, according to Nexstar’s WCBD.
Mace explained that she accidentally uncovered evidence of “rape, nonconsensual photos and videos of women and underage girls” in her South Carolina district allegedly perpetrated by four men.
“When I uncovered evidence of rape and the illegal filming of women, and sex trafficking, I didn’t just see victims. I saw a system that failed to protect them,” she said in her speech. Mace claimed some of the women – including herself – were incapacitated at the time and that she found thousands of images and videos of the alleged assaults taken on hidden cameras.
She went on to say that she was physically assaulted by one of the alleged perpetrators a week later, which prompted her to flee her home and go “into hiding.” Mace had previously shared that she had escaped what she described as a domestic violence situation.
Roughly a month after Mace’s House floor speech, one of the four men she accused sued her for defamation . In April, Mace sued Bowman , accusing him of spreading false information about her after her floor speech.
Then in May, an unidentified woman sued Bryant, Osborne, and Bowman , alleging that they had sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious at Bowman’s Sullivan’s Island home in 2018. The woman, who had been working for Bryant at the time, said she only learned of video of the incident through Mace in 2024.
In August, Bowman turned himself in to authorities to face a felony domestic violence charge in connection with a September 2016 incident. At the time, he was also facing a first-degree harassment charge for an April arrest after he allegedly placed a tracking device on a woman’s car.
Months later, in November, Bryant filed a defamation suit against his ex-fiancée, Mace. In his suit, Bryant claimed that the May lawsuit filed against him, Osborne, and Bowman was fabricated by Mace and Bowman’s estranged wife.
