Live updates: Trump tweaks DC arch plans; tensions run high in Middle East

President Trump, who is in Washington after returning from Camp David a day earlier than previously scheduled, said early Sunday that the planned triumphal arch near the nation’s capital will now incorporate a “top grade military complex.”

Noting the changes were being made for national security purposes, Trump said the arch will have the ability to house drones and host snipers.

The president’s announcement comes amid tensions in the Middle East, after the State Department issued a travel advisory warning Americans located in the region to “exercise heightened vigilance” and prepare for potential travel disruptions amid new attacks from the Iranian-backed Houthis on Saudi Arabia.

A number of top officials and lawmakers are making appearances on the Sunday morning news shows after the White House denied CNN, MS NOW and Politico journalists access to its grounds Saturday. Trump said on Friday that he was banning those news outlets from the premises after accusing them of producing “purposefully negative stories.”
