4 class 11 students killed, 1 injured after being run over by Rajya Rani Express in Andhra Pradesh

SRIKAKULAM: Four students, all aged 17 years, died and another youngster was injured after being run over by the Rajya Rani express near Ravivalasa locality of Tekkali mandal in Srikakulam district on Wednesday afternoon.The deceased were identified as Ganguvada Visakha Rao and Janni Dileep Kumar both were native of Damara village in Tekkali mandal, Janni Sarath Kumar, a native of Bhimpuram under Tekkali mandal and Savara Siva, a native of Meliaputti, while Ganguvada Salman Raju, a native of Damara, sustained injuries in the incident.Srikakulam superintendent of police KV Maheswara Reddy said all the deceased were studying intermediate first year at the government junior college at Tekkali and staying at SC/ST students' hostel in Tekkali.The victims used to stay sometime in their friend Salman Raju's room.The survivor Salman Raju claimed that the incident occurred while they had gone to attend nature's call on Wednesday afternoon.However, the investigation is on to establish the exact reasons for the youngster had gone to the railway track locality, said Maheswara Reddy.However, the locals said the tragic incident occurred when the youngsters were crossing the railway track on their way back to Ravivalasa after visiting a pond to catch the fish.The train travelling from Rourkela to Gunupur hit and ran over them around 1pm, killing four on the spot, they added.The locals immediately alerted the authorities and shifted the injured Salaman Raju to the Tekkali government hospital for treatment.Since the college was closed on Wednesday on account of heavy rainfall, the students had gone to the railway track to attend nature's call.They failed to notice the train coming towards them due to low visibility due to bad weather, resulting in the death of four of them on the spot.Following the accident, railway officials and police personnel rushed to the scene and took stock of the situation.Police examined the bodies, collected preliminary evidence and gathered information from various sources.
