Instagram contact, sexual assault: 19-year-old arrested under POCSO Act in TN after Class 12 student’s complaint

CHENNAI: A 19-year-old electrician was arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old Class 12 student whom he befriended on Instagram, police said.He took the girl on his motorcycle to a secluded spot in the Somangalam forest area and assaulted her.The accused, Muthusamy of Nandambakkam near Kundrathur, had been in contact with the student through Instagram for about a month.Police said he met her in person on Thursday evening and took her to the secluded location on his motorcycle.After the assault, Muthusamy dropped the student near her house and fled.Her parents took her to Tambaram District Government Hospital for treatment and lodged a complaint with the Guduvanchery All-Women Police Station at 9am on Friday.Police registered a case and arrested Muthusamy around 10am, within an hour of receiving the complaint.
