Eye drops sold nationwide recalled over possible contamination, FDA reports

The Food and Drug Administration reported that bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief have been voluntarily recalled over potential contamination. According to the FDA notice, the 0.5-fluid-ounce bottles were distributed nationwide by Medtech Products, which is owned by Prestige Consumer Healthcare in New York. No other other eye drops were included in the recall and no injuries have been reported to date, according to a Prestige spokesperson. “Although the affected product was not confirmed to be contaminated, we initiated this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution and our commitment to providing consumers with safe, high-quality products,” the spokesperson said in an email. The eye drops are sold over the counter nationwide at major retailers. The 39,060 recalled products were labeled Lot 2552A, with a recall number of D-0766-2026 and expiration date of Sept. 30, 2027. The recall began July 29 and is ongoing. The FDA notice listed the recall as Class II, meaning there may be temporary or medically reversible health problems. The reason for the recall was “lack of assurance of sterility,” the notice said.
