PALGHAR: Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Palghar city chief Rahul Gharat, the main accused in the alleged ruckus and assault at a private hospital in Palghar, was arrested on Monday after he surrendered before the police.The incident took place at Relief Hospital in Palghar on Saturday night when five injured Govindas, who had sustained injuries during Dahi Handi celebrations, were admitted for treatment. Three of them were kept in the intensive care unit (ICU).The injured Govindas had alleged that the hospital was forcing them to undergo CT scans and was trying to charge them excessive amounts. Following the allegations, Shiv Sena office-bearers and workers entered the hospital late at night and allegedly created a ruckus. A hospital employee was assaulted and the IV lines of the Govindas admitted to the ICU were allegedly removed before they were taken away.Palghar police had registered a case against 17 people, including Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe, city chief Rahul Gharat, the son of MLA Rajendra Gavit and deputy taluka chief Rohit Gavit, under various sections of the law.“Gharat appeared before the Palghar police station on Monday and was arrested. Efforts are on to trace the remaining accused,” said Kishor Manbhav, senior police inspector of Palghar police station.Meanwhile, injured Govinda Akash Patil reiterated his allegations against the doctors. He claimed that although he felt better after being given an injection, he was allegedly kept in the ICU for three hours after being put on a saline drip against his wishes. He demanded action against the doctors.MLA seeks action against doctorsPalghar MLA Rajendra Gavit visited the Palghar police station on Monday and demanded that a case be registered against the doctors.Gavit alleged that the hospital staff were forcing the injured Govindas to stay back and undergo MRI and CT scans.
