How Assam man who vowed to kill wife’s ‘sugar daddy’ ended up dying himself

GUWAHATI: Ramanuj Goswami, a cab driver accused of murdering his wife, died after allegedly jumping from a moving police vehicle in Guwahati early on Monday, police said.Ramanuj (28) was being taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) when the incident occurred near the Nursing College on Narakasur Hill.Goswami was accused of beheading his wife, Riya Talukdar Goswami (25), at their Basisthapur flat on Sept 3. He surrendered on Sept 6. Police recovered her severed head, wrapped in a polythene bag, from a refrigerator and her body from the flat.DCP Tabu Ram Pegu said Goswami complained of feeling unwell and was being taken for a medical examination around 2 am. The police vehicle suffered a puncture near the TV tower, and a tyre had to be replaced.After the journey resumed, Goswami allegedly kicked the constable holding his handcuffs and jumped from the moving vehicle near the Nursing College, Pegu said. He reportedly fell on the road and then jumped towards a roadside slope, sustaining serious injuries. The constable was also injured.“He was immediately taken to GMCH, where he was examined, but the doctor declared him dead,” Pegu said.GMCH superintendent Devajit Choudhury said Goswami was brought to the hospital around 3 am as a road accident case.“The patient was admitted with head injuries and bleeding. He was brought dead to the hospital. Autopsy of the deceased is underway. The causes of death will be ascertained after that,” he said.Goswami’s family in Gauripur, Dhubri district, was informed. His father, Tarun Kumar Goswami, said the family learnt of his death while performing Riya’s shraddha.
