Lawyers protest at SRN Hospital, seek doctor’s arrest

Prayagraj: A group of lawyers staged a demonstration at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRN) on Monday and later blocked the road at the Medical College crossing, demanding the arrest of a doctor who allegedly misbehaved with lawyer Sarvesh Shukla on Oct 23 when he visited the hospital for a patient’s treatment.The lawyers lifted the blockade after the additional commissioner of police assured them that action would be taken in this regard. Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital is an associated hospital of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC), Prayagraj.A delegation of lawyers will meet police officers on Tuesday to seek information about the status of the investigation into the FIR lodged by the lawyer against the doctor at Kotwali police station.Meanwhile, the resident doctors’ association has also demanded the safety of doctors and measures to prevent similar incidents. It has called for appropriate legal action against those who allegedly physically assaulted the doctors.In addition, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has sent a representation to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, requesting him to take cognisance of the assault on the lawyer at SRN. The representation, signed by the bar association’s president, CP Upadhyaya, and secretary, Santosh Kumar Mishra, also mentions the prevailing conditions at SRN, which, according to them, require the chief minister’s immediate and direct attention.Stay updated with the latest Prayagraj news.
