Singer and actor Ray Quinn has spoken of the "heartbreaking" loss of his baby son, Rio, who was stillborn.

The former Brookside actor said his son Rio was "born sleeping" on 20 August at Liverpool Women's University Hospital.

Quinn said his son was a "beautiful boy" as he paid tribute on his Instagram page.

He said: "No words will ever be enough, just a lot of indescribable feelings."

Quinn married dance teacher Emily Fletcher in October 2023.

His statement on social media continued: "The last few weeks have been a lot but our saving grace has been each other."

The X-Factor star thanked staff at Liverpool Women's Hospital for their care. He said it had been "the most heartbreaking week of our lives" but that medical staff had helped make "special memories with our boy to keep forever".

The couple have also talked about the loss on their YouTube channel The Quinns.

In the episode Emily said: "Pregnancy and having children is a very special thing, but it does have risks and things can happen that you least expect. That's happened to us."

The 34-year-old described how, when a nurse broke the news that there was no heartbeat during a scan at six months, their "whole world stopped".

"All our hopes and taking our little baby back to our renovated house just crashed before us", she added.

The couple said they were sharing their story in the hope "it helps those out there who find themselves in a similar situation to us."

Baby Loss Awareness Week takes place from 9 to 15 October.
