Jamshedpur: A man, in his forties, allegedly hacked his two elder sisters to death with an axe in a village in Dhalbhumgarh police station limits of East Singhbhum district in the early hours of Monday. The incident took place in Bawaida village. Police suspected that superstition could have led to the killings. The accused Swarup Tudu, who lived alone, called a traditional faith healer late on Sunday after being unwell for several days. His sisters Dulari Soren (55) and Lakshmi Mandi (50) also arrived to attend to him. After a puja was performed at the house, the sisters went to sleep. Swarup then hacked them to death while they were sleeping and surrendered before the police on Monday.“Preliminary investigations indicated that superstition and occult practices might have played a role in the killings. However, the exact motive was yet to be established,” Dhiraj Mishra, the officer-in-charge of Dhalbhumgarh police station, said. The police recovered the bodies and sent them to MGM Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
