"Way to read the room."
Melania Trump faces backlash for sharing a video showcasing preparations for a state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping on X.
X users criticize Melania for being "tone deaf" and "out of touch" with Americans struggling to afford groceries, gas, and healthcare.
Reports suggest Melania and Donald Trump's marriage is strained, with claims that they "barely speak to each other" amid allegations of the POTUS' close relationship with his executive assistant.
Melania Trump is facing major backlash for her latest move.
On Thursday, September 17, the First Lady shared a black-and-white video on X, showcasing preparations for President Donald Trump 's state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The short clip highlights a lavish chandelier and floral centerpieces, and even shows Melania carefully arranging elegant silverware and glassware on the dinner table.
"THE WHITE HOUSE STATE DINNER," she wrote alongside the video. "Every detail considered. An experience thoughtfully conceived and exquisitely realized for our distinguished guests."
As expected, many X users took to the replies and dubbed Melania as "tone deaf" and "out of touch."
"Meanwhile, back on Earth 1, Americans can't afford groceries, gas, or healthcare," one person wrote.
Another X user commented sarcastically, "Way to read the room. You are in touch with the American people. Truly."
"Trumps all have no class so you'll never do right and delete this tweet about your opulent meal BUT did you consider that Americans are choosing between food, medicine, gas & paying to keep power on?" a third user said . "Do you think we give a good godd—n about your dinner plans?
Someone else noted, "Because of your husband's tariffs and interest rates, my family can't afford to renovate our house. But glad y'all had a fancy dinner."
This latest controversy comes amid claims that Melania and Donald Trump's marriage is "not in a healthy place." According to The Irish Star , the POTUS' close relationship with his executive assistant, Natalie Harp , has further strained his connection with Melania. Reportedly, the two barely speak to each other these days.
"A marriage where two people are reportedly barely speaking is clearly not in a healthy place. Communication is the heartbeat of any long term relationship," relationship expert Gemma Logan told the outlet. "When conversation becomes minimal, couples can start living parallel lives rather than a shared one. At that point, the question isn't simply whether they spend time together, but whether they still feel emotionally connected when they do."
Still, Logan remains optimistic that Melania and Trump will overcome the challenges and come back stronger than ever.
"If reports about Donald and Melania Trump are accurate, the most important thing to remember is that distance in a marriage doesn't always mean the relationship is over," she added. "Some couples need constant closeness to feel connected. Others function with far more independence, particularly when both partners have demanding lives, strong personalities and very different ways of dealing with public attention."
Logan explained that many marriages "can survive distance" as long as an "emotional disconnection" doesn't develop between the couple. "Living in different places doesn't automatically spell trouble. Plenty of couples have successful relationships while spending significant periods apart because of work, family responsibilities or lifestyle choices."
"The real issue is what happens emotionally during that time," she emphasized. "If the distance is mutually agreed, openly discussed and balanced with genuine affection, it can work. In some cases, a little breathing room can even make a relationship stronger."
Logan continued, "However, if physical distance is being used to avoid conflict, emotional intimacy or difficult conversations, it can become a sign of a much deeper problem. The key question for Donald and Melania Trump is whether their separate routines are simply practical or whether they reflect a relationship that has become increasingly separate in every meaningful sense."
