Snooki announces ‘mawma is cancer free’ after diagnosis, hysterectomy

Congratulations are in order! Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi announced in a Sept. 19 Instagram video that she is officially cancer-free. The good news comes after the “Jersey Shore” star told fans in February that she was diagnosed with Stage 1 cervical cancer, undergoing a hysterectomy months later to treat the disease. “After a colposcopy, conization & hysterectomy, mawma is cancer free,” Polizzi, 38, wrote in some text that accompanied a video of the reality star, enjoying a celebratory drink. A colposcopy is a procedure that checks the cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease while conization refers to a different procedure in which abnormal tissue is removed from the cervix. The announcement received an outpouring of support, including positive messages from fellow “Jersey Shore” cast mates Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola. Other social media users, who have also gone through cervical cancer, shared their excitement for Polizzi. “I’m so happy for you and your family 🥹♥️ I know the struggle you have been through 🥹♥️I got diagnosed with cervix cancer in 2022 and went through chemo and radiation therapy, I’m cancer free now ♥️LOVE from Denmark ♥️” one user wrote. In her post, Polizzi showed her appreciation for her medical team. “Thanks to all the doctors who helped me on this journey!” Polizzi wrote in the caption. “It wouldn’t be possible without you!” The reality star — who shared that she will be getting pap smears every three months to ensure that the disease doesn’t reappear — also encouraged women to be vigilant about their health. “GET UR PAP SMEARS LADIES! & stay on top of those appointments!💗” Polizzi wrote. Back in July, the mother of three shared a video on social media that gave fans a glimpse of her experience with hysterectomy surgery, documenting the entire day of the procedure. “It’s a scary thing, and a lot of us women deal with it, and no one really talks about it,” Polizzi said in the video. “So I’m here to give that platform for all of us ladies.” Polizzi also shared her honest emotions around the surgery. She said in the video that she was “terrified” while going into the procedure. The doctors ended up removing her uterus, cervix along with “some parts” of the vagina “just to make sure we get everything,” she said. “Just dealing with all that pain — it’s not great,” a tearful Polizzi said.
