More Amazon Prime customers will soon be getting refunds from a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and they won't need to file a claim.

Amazon ( AMZN ) has already paid about $845 million in refunds as part of the $2.5 billion settlement with the FTC . However, additional refunds are now set to be issued.

Under a recently revised FTC order, more Amazon Prime customers now qualify for the payments — and refund amounts have nearly quadrupled, from $51 to $200. Payments will continue through April 2027.

Here are the details on who qualifies, how much the checks will be, and what you need to do to be added to the settlement list.

What the Amazon Prime settlement is about

The FTC lawsuit claimed that Amazon enrolled millions of customers in Prime subscriptions without notice or consent and then made it difficult to cancel the service.

"Amazon is required to pay $1.5 billion for refunds to customers affected by its unlawful Prime enrollment and cancellation practices," the latest FTC notice states. "Amazon is also required to pay a $1 billion civil penalty and cease unlawful enrollment and cancellation practices for Prime subscriptions."

Amazon did not admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

Under the revised settlement order, there are three requirements to be eligible for a settlement payment, which have changed since the original payouts began:

You are an Amazon Prime customer in the United States

You signed up for an Amazon Prime subscription on the Prime decision page, a shipping selection page, a single-page checkout, or on the Prime Video enrollment page. Or you tried to cancel a subscription but could not do so between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.

You used no more than 20 Prime benefits, such as Prime Music or Prime Video, in any 12-month period.

How much are the Prime settlement payments?

Under the revised order, maximum payments will now total $200. Initial payments to eligible Prime customers were capped at $51. If a customer previously received a $51 payment, they may be issued an additional payment up to $149.

What eligible consumers need to do to get paid

Submitting a claim, completing a form, or responding to a notice are not required. Amazon is automatically sending refunds to eligible customers via PayPal or Venmo by April 2027, or by mailing checks.

The FTC noted that payments expire 60 days after the issue date, and eligible recipients should accept them promptly.

"The FTC is not contacting people about refunds in the Amazon matter," the government agency warned. "If you get a call from someone who claims to be from the FTC, it's a scam. Report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov ." The FTC also noted that consumers shouldn't pay someone who promises a refund in exchange for a fee and should not give personal information to anyone who contacts them promising a refund.
