Gary Cohn on Meta's Muse: 'I'm not comfortable giving up my personal data'

Gary Cohn, vice chair at tech giant IBM ( IBM ) and former economic adviser to President Trump, isn't yet ready to use Meta's ( META ) new Muse AI agent in his daily life.

And surely he isn't alone on this front.

"I'm not comfortable giving up my personal data and my personal information," Cohn said on Yahoo Finance's Sozzi Unleashed . "By the way, I have enough trouble managing my life, knowing my own personal data. I don't like giving it to someone else, that's not in my comfort zone right now."

Meta investors have been having a week to remember as Muse has surged to the top spot on Apple's App Store.

Muse reached 2.8 million downloads in its first 12 days across both the US and Canada app stores, according to the latest Sensor Tower data.

What's more, Muse has surpassed ChatGPT in early adoption, with 1.8 million downloads in Muse's first 12 days compared to 1.3 million for ChatGPT. Muse also set a new US daily download record of 264,000 on Sept. 19, its third straight day above 200,000.

Shares of Meta have rallied by some 20% over the past two weeks as Muse mania has taken hold across markets and social media.

Now all eyes turn to CEO Mark Zuckerberg at his annual Meta Connect event later today. Investors have high expectations for how Muse will be integrated into Meta's smart glasses, and they also hope to get fresh download and usage data.

"The most important update from Zuck's Meta Connect keynote that kicks off tonight at 7pm ET has nothing to do with wearables," longtime tech analyst Gene Munster wrote in an X post. "Investors will be eagerly waiting for him to share any datapoints on Muse's early adoption. For all the buzz that Muse has gotten, pushing shares of up 20% over the past two weeks, the company has shared little."

Munster added, "Alexandr Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, has said usage is running 'well ahead of internal projections' and he framed it as the biggest consumer AI launch since ChatGPT, with heavier U.S. download volume than Threads, WhatsApp, and Facebook combined. So tonight will be the first time we hear from Zuckerberg on Muse. Fingers crossed for some juicy data points."
