Actor Bill Murray walked on to a CNBC set Monday and interrupted an interview with President Trump’s top economic adviser, Kevin Hassett.
The “Saturday Night Live” and “Ghostbusters” star interjected during the National Economic Council director’s appearance on the financial news show “Squawk Box.” Murray questioned why Hassett was always smiling in the type of bizarre but humorous appearance that has become typical for Murray in recent years.
“Why is that man always smiling?” Murray asked as anchor Becky Quick handed him her microphone.
Hassett quipped back, saying his smile is because he is thinking about Murray. Hassett said he is a fan of Murray’s movies, including 1993’s “Groundhog Day.”
The actor said he was “concerned — not worried — but concerned” by Hassett’s constant grin. Anchor Joe Kernen jumped in to propose that his smile may be due to last week’s release of positive economic data that showed the U.S. economy grew by 3.4 percent last quarter.
“Well when I talked to the president about the number, he said ‘3.4 — it should be 20,’ so he’s expected more from us,” Hassett said.
