Taco Bell and sibling chain Habit Burger & Grill plan to relocate their shared global headquarters to Alton HQ at 15955, 15967, 15975 Alton Parkway in Irvine, California, in the spring of 2028. The new 251,000-square-foot, three-building campus will expand from their current 181,000-square-foot footprint as both brands continue to grow.
The new campus is approximately 1.1 miles away from the current headquarters at 1 Glen Bell Way. Taco Bell moved into that location in 2010. In 2019, the company signed an 11-year lease extension. Nation's Restaurant News reached out to the company to learn if its lease was renegotiated or if the companies are buying out the remaining two years.
Habit moved into the building in 2020, shortly after Yum acquired the chain for approximately $375 million.
According to the companies, the new location will have capacity for approximately 1,100-plus people, up from approximately 970-plus today. Meeting space capacity will also nearly double and will include a 10,000-square-foot meeting space, a dining center, a 4,000-square-foot photo studio, and a dedicated test kitchen for Habit Burger.
"As Taco Bell and Habit continue to grow, we want our workplace to grow with us. Our new campus in Irvine is an investment in our people and our future, giving our teams more space to collaborate and create. This campus reflects our confidence in what's ahead and reinforces our long-term commitment to Irvine and the broader Orange County community," Taco Bell CEO Sean Tresvant and Habit Burger CEO Shannon Hennessy said in a joint statement.
The Alton HQ space is owned by Irvine Company Office Properties. In a statement, President Roger DeWames said the company has been working closely with both Taco Bell and Habit to customize the space around their unique needs.
Taco Bell and Habit Burger are both owned by Yum Brands, which is headquartered in Plano, Texas, and also includes KFC. Yum recently sold its Pizza Hut brand in two separate deals to LongRange Capital and Yum China and executives said the spinoff will allow the company to better focus on its remaining brands, including its "twin growth engines" of Taco Bell and KFC International.
Since its founding in 1962 by Glen Bell, Taco Bell has been headquartered in Palos Verdes and Torrance before settling into Irvine more than 40 years ago. Habit opened its first restaurant in 1969 in Santa Barbara, California. Prior to moving to 1 Glen Bell Way, the company was headquartered elsewhere in Irvine.
