Target opening new stores soon, with dozens more ‘upcoming’

(NEXSTAR) – Costco isn’t the only major retailer with a massive expansion plan in the works . Target is progressing toward its own growth goal with a slew of new openings set for October.

The Minnesota-based retailer previously announced plans to have over 300 new stores by 2035. It’s been well on its way all year, opening its 2,000th location in March . Based on Target’s calculations , most U.S. households can find a store within 10 miles of their doorsteps.

Eight communities will soon see a new Target open near them.

A spokesperson tells Nexstar the following stores are scheduled to open on October 11:

Another store, replacing a shuttered Macy’s in Lima , Ohio, will open on November 8.

The Tupelo store is set to be the largest Target in Mississippi, covering roughly 148,000 square feet. The stores opening in Texas will be about the same size, according to Target, while the location opening in Bridgehampton will come in at around 90,000 square feet. The remaining stores will have footprints of about 128,000 square feet.

All of the new stores will also feature Starbucks Cafés.

These are the last of the more than 30 stores Target planned to open in 2026, but several more remain in the works.

According to Target’s website, there are more than 30 additional stores across 21 states slated to open eventually:

Many of these stores, including Denver , Monument , Covington , Chubbuck , Meridian , Terre Haute , Hermitage , Gallatin , Dripping Springs , Herriman , Lehi , and Brown Deer , are expected to open in 2027, according to previous reports. The location in Chelsea may not open until 2028.

In Meridian, Winter Haven , Denham Springs , Davison , Fayetteville , Williston , Hermitage , Lexington , Newport , Farr West , Farmington , and Albuquerque , Target is set to anchor new or growing developments.

In others, Target is replacing former retail spaces, like an old Sears in Clearwater , a theater and office retailer in Fort Lauderdale , a vacant Kmart in Round Lake Beach , and a mall under redevelopment in Chubbuck.
