Majority of voters say Trump’s policies worsened the economy: Poll

Most voters believe that President Trump’s policies have weakened the economy, according to a new poll.

In the NBC News poll , 55 percent said that economic conditions have been worsened by Trump’s policies, while 26 percent said the opposite. Eighteen percent in the poll said economic conditions haven’t been really affected by the president’s policies, while 1 percent were unsure about how his policies have affected the economy.

The poll’s results are a warning sign for the president and the GOP as they gear up for the midterms. In the last year, Trump has faced slumping approval numbers, dealt with an unpopular war in Iran and received backlash over his immigration and economic policies.

In a polling average from Decision Desk HQ, Trump’s approval rating was sitting at 39.7 percent on Sunday evening, with his disapproval rating at 58.9 percent.

Republicans have recently fought about how to improve their weak polling numbers on the economy ahead of Election Day, fearing that voter fury due to high prices could cost their party’s candidates in November.

In the NBC poll, 28 percent of respondents called inflation and the cost of living “the most important issue facing the country,” with government corruption, threats to democracy and jobs and the economy seen as the most important issue by 18, 16 and 9 percent of the respondents, respectively.

The poll also found that 62 percent of respondents called the Iran war “not worth it,” while 33 percent disagreed and 5 percent were unsure.

The NBC News poll took place from Sept. 11 to 15 and featured 1,000 registered voters, as well as a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
